Letter from Israel

Israel’s Emek Medical Center (EMC)Affiliated with the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Technion, Haifa, IsraelAugust 21, 2006The general feeling from here today is that we are now in the eye of the hurricane … that deceiving calm before the onslaught of more destruction. This war did not decimate the Iranians in Lebanon, did not vanquish their stockpile of missiles and we did not free our kidnapped soldiers. Mediocre politicians may dance around these facts all they want, but when the music stops … the facts remain the same. The danger for this hospital and the inhabitants of the Jezreel Valley, the Valley of Armageddon, is that the future missiles will be coming from the north and the south … from the Palestinian territories as well. We are caught in the middle and we must be prepared. The architectural plans for our Surgical Tower have been upgraded to build the floor of Operating Rooms and the next floor of inpatient departments to bomb shelter specifications. This additional steel reinforced concrete will add a million dollars to the Tower’s cost. Israel cannot afford to loose the next round of fighting. The issue is now existential. The only way that we will be able to stave off and eliminate the rocket threats will be to hit them exactly where they will be fired from. The Islamic fascist’s total disregard for the lives and welfare of their own people assures us that their launching pads will be mingled among their population. I have a suggestion for managing Israel’s media war: Go on the offensive NOW by stating clearly, before any more civilians and children are killed:*Rockets and or missiles fired into the state of Israel from any location (including populated areas) will be met with the immediate targeting with extreme prejudice of those specific areas.*No leaflets or prior warnings will be offered. *The warnings have now been made public … well in advance of any attacks.*The sole responsibility for the welfare of any civilians and/or children in the launching areas will be on the heads of the rocket launching perpetrators. *Israel has no grievance with any peaceful neighboring population.*A rocket or missile fired from a civilian neighborhood will bring about the immediate destruction of that very neighborhood.*To avoid this unnecessary bloodshed and destruction – do not fire on Israel. If these messages are made perfectly clear via every media NOW, before the buttons are pushed, then the local subjugated Arab populations will have the unequivocal choice to deny the murderers sanctuary in their homes and back yards. If our neighbors do nothing and allow themselves to be used as human pawns … then they will be responsible for creating their own inevitable reality. So, CNN and BBC … are you up to the challenge? How about some heavy media preventative tactics instead of sitting back waiting to count bodies and pointing fingers? Broadcast the message now and keep broadcasting it! Then, if the Islamic fascists attack anyway from within their neighborhoods … how different a tone your reporting may take.
