Letter: Make friends, not traffic

Glenn Lieberman
Executive director, SkiCarpool
Vail, CO Colorado

In the Jan. 26 Vail Daily, Sen. Chris Romer, D-Denver, proposes charging weekend fees to skiers who use Interstate 70. Here’s another idea: Why not promote and reward people for carpooling?

Our organization, http://www.SkiCarpool.org is a Colorado nonprofit that provides a free, Web-based carpool matching service from any Colorado ZIP code to any Colorado ski resort. We have several thousand registered users forming carpools every day.

We have support and partnerships with Vail Resorts, the Denver Regional Council of Governments, Clear Creek County, the I-70 Coalition and Arapahoe Basin Ski Resort. With more support from the other ski areas, as well as state and local governments, we can expand to include more users and hopefully implement innovative new ideas like carpool queue lines at the Morrison dinosaur lots.

In the meantime, skiers should check us out at http://www.skicarpool.org, and next time you are going skiing, think about making friends, not traffic.
