Letter: Mountain Games for Eagle Co. locals, too
In the next couple of days, 30 countries will send their best athletes to participate in the Teva Mountain Games, June 5-8 in Vail. This will be one of the highest concentrations of adventure athletes that have ever been assembled in a single location.
This year’s event will be extra special in that it will bring Vail its third jewel in the crown of hosting World Cup sporting events with the addition of World Cup climbing.
Even with all these great athletes, the people I would like to see the most at the Mountain Games are the locals. While we are proud to have organically grown into a world-renowned event, every year we spend a great deal of time concentrating on giving locals a place to shine and an official start to Vail’s summer.
I hope you will join us in whatever relative starting line that applies to you. If you are well trained, hit the GNC Ultimate Mountain Challenge, if you are struggling to get around the block, hit the Teva Mud Run.
If you need to be inspired, pull up a piece of grass and watch what the world’s best athletes, artists and musicians can do with a little dirt, water, rock and heart.
Regardless of your poison, our team has put forth tens of thousands of hours to make this weekend a place that Vail can be proud of. Come play with us.

Are we seeing more bears because there are more bears on the valley floor, or because we’re all spending more time at home? It could be a bit of both.
