Letters: Keeping traffic moving

Dr. Flo Raitano
I-70 Coalition Director
Vail CO, Colorado

The I-70 Coalition applauds the Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) pilot program to provide proactive towing service to clear immobilized trucks that may otherwise result in traffic delays and obstructions between C-470 and Vail on busy winter weekends.

Given the economic significance of the Interstate 70 mountain corridor to Colorado, this strategy to ensure mobility and safety will benefit everyone, not just motorists traveling along the corridor.

CDOT’s willingness to test such a program is seen as a strong indication of its commitment to continually test new ideas to improve traffic flow on I-70 during peak traffic demand and significant weather events.

The Coalition, which includes more than 30 public and private partners including Eagle, Gypsum, Avon, Minturn, Vail and Eagle County, is coordinating efforts and partnering with the Department of Transportation to implement long-term transportation improvements along the mountain corridor.

We look forward to working with CDOT on additional travel management strategies now and in the future.
