I would like to thank the following businesses and people for their generous donations in helping me achieve my goal of traveling with the People to People Student Ambassador program to Fiji, New Zealand, and Australia.
Thank you to the Town of Gypsum, NexGen Constructors, D. Jensen Electric Inc., Bob Herbst, Rob Lee, Kent Rose, Jon and Edie Lengel, Mike and Laurie Sliper, Kent Kriehn, Lucy Oesterle, and Glenn Palmer.
My new friends in Fiji live their lives with so much less than us, but with so much more heart.
I was amazed when a teacher didn’t show up for class and the students stayed in the classroom and worked anyway. We would have gone home or to the store, but these kids take their education very seriously and enjoy learning.
I became close to the Head School girl who told me her story of how she left her family on their farm to live with her grandparents to go to school.
The friends I made in New Zealand and Australia seemed very Americanized. They watch the same TV shows, see the same movies, and wear the same clothes, I really could have been anywhere in the United States.
Australia’s history really caught my attention; I was surprised to learn that Australia was built by European criminals, in the late 1700s.
Thanks again for the opportunity to enrich my life.
