Liberty Skate Park rolls through its first winter
We only meant to stop by, check out the scene, maybe grab a quick photo. Three hours later our Vail Trail sports crew was still hanging around to shoot pool, watch early Jackass videos, and enjoy the scene at Liberty Skate Park in Avon. When last we focused on the skate scene in the valley, we were sad to report that, “The temporary parks in Lionshead, Eagle-Vail, and the cement park in Gypsum are inadequate… skaters are having a hard time finding a place to build their dream park.” (see “Skate Boom in the Mountains” on http://www.vailtrail.com.)Everything changed on Nov. 20, when Valerie Stanton opened the Liberty indoor skate park.If you’re a youth, a teen, a parent or an ol’ pro, the best way to figure out what’s going on at Liberty is to drive to the park on Metcalf Road, walk inside, and introduce yourself to Stanton.– TB
