‘Life’s visual memories’ on canvas in Beaver Creek

Vail Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

Oil painter Ken Valastro will be showing some of his latest work at Knox Galleries in Beaver Creek on Saturday and Sunday.

Valastro has been a prolific artist since age three.

“I’m frequently drawn to the same subject matter that intrigued me as a child such as figurative scenes and cityscapes,” he said.

Encouraged by artistic parents who shunned television, Valastro entertained himself by drawing, spurred on by an active imagination.

“I would look at cracks of paint on the wall and see objects and figures,” he said.

Valastro’s brushstrokes capture the essence of impressionistic images, allowing the viewer to exercise a bit of their own imagination. His paintings offer an evocative and painterly expression of life’s visual memories.

“People always enjoy watching Ken paint with his loose impressionistic style and wide brush strokes and use of contrast with vibrant and dark colors,” said gallery director Mark Kihle. “He paints the things that are around him in life, if he is in New York or Denver it may be the hustle and bustle of city life or when visiting Beaver Creek it may be children playing at the creek or skating on the ice rink.”

Valastro teaches the Art Student’s League of Denver and gives frequent workshops. His work has been collected nationally and internationally.
