BEAVER CREEK – American racer Ted Ligety is leading Sunday’s giant slalom after the first run with a time of 1 minute 16.14 seconds.
Ligety, the World Cup champion in GS, said he went hard on his morning run and anticipated the areas where Americans had trouble in yesterday’s super-G race.
“I was definitely charging,” Ligety said. “In this field and on this kind of hill it’s not something you can really hold back, so I was taking risks for sure.”
Other Americans who made the top 30 cut include Bode Miller, Tim Jitloff and Warner Nickerson.
The second race begins at 12:45 p.m. Race results will use the combined times from both runs to determine the winner.
