For the second-straight World Cup race, Lindsey Vonn failed to get to the finish line.

The 40-year-old — who crashed in the super-G in Cortina last week — posted a DNF after skiing off the Garmisch downhill course with seven gates to go on Saturday in Germany.

“It was OK,” Vonn told The Associated Press. The 82-time World Cup winner added that she hoped to avoid taking risks in the flat light.

“I always want to go full speed but maybe I still need a bit more time,” she said.

Federica Brignone extended her lead in the World Cup overall standings by claiming a 0.01-second win over Olympic downhill gold medalist Sofia Goggia — who won the super-G at Birds of Prey in Beaver Creek in December.

“In skiing, it can happen — one hundredth (of a second) is part of the game,” Brignone told FIS after capturing her second-career downhill victory. The 34-year-old also won in St. Anton nine days ago. The Italian has been on the wrong side of a 0.01 margin twice in her career, including at the hands of Goggia in a super-G in St. Moritz in 2019.

“It can happen to you, it can happen to other people, this is just skiing,” Brignone said.

Breezy Johnson led four Americans into the top 11 with a fourth-place finish.

“I had a plan and I executed it well,” Johnson told U.S. Ski and Snowboard after finishing just 0.06 seconds off the podium. “I was able to execute the main things and next time, the small things will come. Honestly, to be that close to the leaders and the podium is great and i’m excited for that.”

Lauren Macuga — who won her first World Cup in St. Anton earlier this month — finished sixth and Jackie Wiles was 11th.

Saturday’s event was the final downhill before Feb. 4-16 world championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria. The speed weekend continues on Sunday with a super-G beginning at 3 a.m. MST.

The American men put three athletes into the top-30 in the Kitzbuehel downhill on Saturday. Ryan Cochran-Siegle, Jared Goldberg and Bryce Bennett were 19th, 25th and 29th, respectively. Ski and Snowboard Club Vail alumnus Kyle Negomir placed 40th. River Radamus, who was 34th in the super-G event on Friday, will run the slalom on Sunday.

Canadian James Crawford took the win as his teammate, Alexander Cameron, placed third. Swiss skier Alexis Monney finished second.

In her 100th World Cup start, French mogul skier Perrine Laffont claimed World Cup win No. 32.

“It’s just crazy, I’m super happy,” Laffont told FIS after winning the dual moguls event in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire on Saturday. “It was hard to get up this morning and just push myself all the way.”

Jaelin Kauf matched Laffont’s cork 7 top-air to finish second for the second-straight day on the Lower Bobby’s course.

Tess Johnson placed 13th in the World Cup mogul competition in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire on Jan. 24, 2025 and was seventh in the duals the following day.

Ski and Snowboard Club Vail alumni Tess Johnson and Kai Owens finished 7th and 24th, respectively. Reese Chapdelaine — who was 24th in her World Cup debut on home soil Friday — placed 40th. Johnson qualified second in the individual event on Friday before finishing in 13th while Owens placed 15th.

On the men’s side, fellow SSCV alumni Dylan Walczyk finished seventh in the duals — one day after placing ninth in the individual event. SSCV’s Nash Lucas posted a career-best 30th in Friday’s individual and was 49th on Saturday.
