Lionshead Family Afternoon Club returns starting Friday
July 12, 2010
VAIL, Colorado –The Lionshead Saturday Afternoon Club; an event for the entire family! Starting today, Lionshead will host the first of five free family-focused Saturday Afternoon Clubs, spread throughout the Lionshead Village. Each Saturday, with the exception of July 17, from 3 to 6 p.m. Lionshead Village will host a variety of fun activities guaranteed to entertain kids of all ages; including a kids arts and crafts center, pizza tossing competition, gigantic inflatable obstacle course, the Raptor Rendezvous, and new this year, the Lionshead Kids Discovery Zone, an education station that will present new themes each week.
During the Raptor Rendezvous program the Denver-based Raptor Education Foundation (REF) will feature raptors such as eagles, hawks, falcons and owls, allowing those in attendance to get a rare up close introduction to the birds. This two-hour educational program will take place each Saturday, through Aug. 7, from 3 to 5 p.m., located on the grassy lawn adjacent to the Eagle Bahn Gondola, changing subjects and birds from week to week. Please leave dogs at home.
New this year is the Lionshead Kids Discovery Zone. This area will feature a new educational theme each week. This week the Discovery Zone hosts the Denver Butterfly Pavilions “It’s a Buggy World.” The exhibit features Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, stick insects and a collection of spiders including Rosy, the tarantula. Both kids and parents will have the chance to learn a great deal about these creatures, their environments and their peculiar habits. The brave will also have the opportunity to meet Rosy, touch her, and see if she’ll climb on your hand.
The slight hiatus in activity on July 17 is not without good reason – the Vail Antique Festival will fill the Village with antique merchandise. The Raptors will also still be in attendance on that Saturday.
