Live music on tap for Avon’s July 4th celebration
AVON — Avon’s annual USA Salute — a free, fun-filled gathering of live music, food, beer garden and family zone in Nottingham Park — takes place on Wednesday. The day concludes at dark with the largest fireworks in the Colorado Rockies as 10,000 shells explode over Nottingham Lake.
This signature event celebrates its 27th year with gates opening at 4 p.m. Colorado-based Whitewater Ramble takes the stage at 5 p.m. The quintet combines the elements of mandolin, fiddle, acoustic guitar, upright bass, drums and vocals to explore the musical boundaries of multiple genres and to fuel their own mixture of original music and innovative cover song.
New Orleans’ Dirty Dozen Brass Band will follow at 7 p.m. Tagged with revolutionizing the New Orleans brass band style by incorporating funk and bebop into the traditional New Orleans jazz style, the band has been a major influence on brass bands musicians around the country.
Food booths featuring Colorado vendors will dish out selections from burgers to funnel cakes. A highlight of Nottingham Park’s activities is the Family Zone with balloon sculptures, carnival games and a petting zoo, closing just as darkness falls.
Then, the highlight of the evening begins — 27 non-stop minutes of sky-filling fireworks. Choreographed to broadcast music, composition after composition of colors, explosions and booms entertain in the night sky.
