Living my life with indescribable joy

Gary Wingo

Are you living the abundant life God promises us? John 1:16 says, “From the fullness of God’s grace, we have all received one blessing after another!” Do you experience those blessings? I believe that God has this great desire for us to live in sheer joy. Not just simple happiness, but real, lasting, life-changing joy! That means God’s heart for you is full of life and compassion. He wants us to enjoy our time on this planet to the fullest. How then do we live abundantly, with joy beyond words, encouraged and refreshed here on earth? We live in a magnificent place that lends itself to a deeper awareness of God. Yes, God is real, He is personal, and you matter to Him. But He has also designed creation for our benefit. We can enjoy great music that stirs our soul, share a wonderful meal with friends, and find encouragement. We can enjoy nature and take a quiet hike and experience a time of solitude. We can do as Jesus Christ did: “Very early in the morning, Jesus got up, left the house, and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed.” Mark 1:35. Clearly Jesus found peace in silence; I’m sure He watched the glorious sunrise as He spoke with His Father and His heart soared. Nothing stops us from doing the same. Nothing, that is, except ourselves. Let me suggest a course of action that requires some change and perhaps risk:1.) Break from your busy schedule and get away. “I lift my eyes to the hills where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2. Take time to seek God and find your true heart again. 2.) Instead of verbalizing a prayer, converse with the Lord. God’s not deaf or unaware of your circumstance. He will hear you loud and clear. Let go of how you think your life should be fulfilled, ask God what your heart needs. Then listen.3.) Know that God will NOT speak discouraging, negative, condemning words to you. He will NOT demand you to work harder or perform better. Our heavenly Father WILL speak grace to you. Mercy and love will flow into your consciousness. Truth will be revealed in your heart the more you surrender to His leadership and power in your life.4.) Stand still and trust. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will make straight your paths.” Trust God’s plan for you and stop listening to the lies out there that say life is supposed to be a struggle. Sure, things happen, but God’s joy is overflowing and free to you if you’ll just accept it. Believe He will speak to you if you will stand still and listen!5.) Start living God’s plan for you through Jesus Christ in your heart. Jesus refused to live by other people’s expectations. He spent time alone with His Father, enjoyed days with close friends, and served all God put in His path. Like Him, we do not have to be ruled by expectations of others either. We can live with the same abundant joy each day knowing our Father accepts us and considers us valuable! What are you waiting on? Isaiah 58:11 encourages us: “The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” This gift is yours for the taking, and God can’t wait to give it! The question is will you receive it? Jesus Christ is waiting for you…Gary Wingo leads the Seekers Fellowship currently on a seasonal break.Vail, Colorado
