Local architects featured on HGTV today
EAGLE COUNTY – If you need a break from football today, you can catch a show featuring RKD Architects of Edwards on the HGTV cable channel.
An RKD Architects’ project, the Pa Gomo residence in Greyhead just outside of Telluride, will be featured on HGTV’s “Million Dollar Rooms” series. The show will air at 11 a.m. and noon today and at 11 a.m. Monday.
“I am interested to see what this show looks like,” said architect Jack Snow, who was interviewed for the show last summer. “I was featured on a documentary that aired weekly for two years in Minnesota, so being on TV is not a big deal, but this was eight hours of interviews and 12 hours of filming, all of which has been edited down to a five or six minute segment. Who knows what they will put together.”
Pa Gomo has been featured in print numerous times, but this is its first appearance on national television. “Pa Gomo,” which in the Chinyanga southern African language means “on the mountain” is built of site-harvested stone high on the flank of Hawn Mountain. It is an assembly of angled stone forms, sloped glass and curved copper roofs with a seamless connection to the environment and the pond and stream that anchor the design.
RKD was founded in Vail in 1990 by Jack Snow and his wife Sally Brainerd. Their work is now found as far east as Minnesota and throughout the west, but most of the portfolio is in mountain resorts, primarily Vail and Telluride, as well as the Lake Tahoe.
