EAGLE COUNTY — Locals are already rallying to help a young ski champion injured in a crash this week.
Kailyn Forsberg finished second in Monday’s rail competition during the United States of America Snowboard and Free Skiing nationals held at Copper Mountain.
She was seriously injured during Tuesday’s aerials and was air-lifted from Copper Mountain to Children’s Hospital in Denver.
The extent of her injuries are unknown. She underwent surgery Thursday.
An account to help offset the family’s medical expenses has been established at First Bank.

Forsberg is an Eagle Valley High School student and the daughter of Mitch Forsberg, Gypsum Elementary School principal.
Kailyn Forsberg is one of nearly 1,900 athletes from 11 countries and 31 regional USASA series who competed in this year’s USASA national championships at Copper Mountain.
