Local GOP holds campaign event Tuesday

EAGLE COUNTY ” The Eagle County Republicans will hold a volunteer party from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at their campaign headquarters at the bowling alley building in Eagle.

The event is open to anyone interested in helping the McCain-Palin ticket, as well as the state and local election campaigns.

“You can help a lot or a little, but any help will be greatly appreciated,” local party Chairman Randy Milhoan said. “Neither Obama nor McCain can win the White House without carrying Colorado.”

He said the local candidates need help getting signs out in neighborhoods and holding “meet and greets.”

“We also need individuals to work shifts in the campaign headquarters in Eagle,” he said.

Milhoan said the Republicans will kick off their “Victory Blitz” aimed at early and absentee voters on Tuesday, as well.

Many voters cast their ballots before election day, and the Republicans aim to reach them through phone calls and going door to door.

Milhoan said high school students are encouraged to participate in the GOP campaign efforts. The Obama campaign is tapping students to help with walking, sign placement and information distribution, he said, and the Republicans want to offer the same opportunities.
