EAGLE, Colorado – When Kevin Barnes moved to the Valley recently, like many other newly arrived residents, he came for a change and to escape the frenetic pace he left behind. He also came, like many others, with a special talent. From an early age, Barnes was enthralled with magic. What started as a knack for entertaining family and friends with sleight of hand and card tricks, Barnes eventually parlayed into a successful career on, arguably, the worlds preeminent stage for entertainers: The Las Vegas strip.

It was after his first year in Vegas, performing at the Excalibur Hotel that Barnes had the idea for using peoples – especially kids’ – fascination with magic to promote environmental awareness. In 1991 he spoke with his youngest brother Randy, a naturalist and outreach speaker for a wilderness center, about his ideas for the “Green Earth Magic Show.” Together, they developed a show using magic and the accompanying dialogue as a metaphor for many environmental challenges.

Today, 15 years after the Green Earth Magic Show first premiered, Barnes has performed and shared his magical food for thought in most of the Strip’s top hotels and in such exotic locations as Ecuador, Costa Rica, Hong Kong and Singapore. Through it all, Barnes most rewarding shows are those he does for kids in schools and conservation-based organizations.

Barnes will share his talents locally New Years Eve at the Back Bowl in Eagle. He will be performing tableside in the Bowlmor Cafe and throughout the lanes at the Back Bowl from 6 to 9 p.m. as part of their New Years Celebration, which also includes dinner specials, live music with local band Down the Hatch and cosmic bowling.
