Local Realtors help housing
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL, Colorado ” The Colorado Association of Realtors Housing Opportunity Foundation has donated $714,000 this year to more than 100 housing agencies in Colorado. This represents the most the foundation has donated in one year.
About 25 percent of the donations were given to organizations that provide foreclosure prevention, like the Colorado Foreclosure Hotline, and various homeless shelters, transitional housing programs for the homeless, and mortgage/rental assistance programs to prevent homelessness.
“With the high foreclosure rate in Colorado and significant homeless population, it’s not surprising a quarter of our grants this year went to these causes,” said Bill Osnowitz, the association’s president.
The Vail Board of Realtors chapter completed its second round of grants for 2008, giving out a total of $55,155.62 to three nonprofit housing organizations.
Local grant recipients include Habitat for Humanity for new home construction, Eagle County for down-payment assistance, and Bright Future Foundation for emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence.
Association chairman Mark Weinreich, with Forbes Sotheby’s International Realty, said he is excited to see funds making an impact on affordable housing in Eagle County. To date, the association has given more than $6.5 million in grants to nonprofit housing organizations.
“This is what (the association) was created for, to make a difference in people’s lives,” said Mark Weinreich.
