Longtime local Dwight Lee died Sept. 11 at a hospital in Wichita, Kan. He was surrounded by family and friends.

Dwight and Shirley Lee moved to Vail in 1968. He was the head teacher in an open-room classroom. He taught in the Eagle County School District for 20 years. His wife worked for Dave and Renee Gorsuch until her death in 1986.

Dwight has three daughters: Ronda Lee, of Avon, Sheryl Sanders of Brewster, Mass., and Rebecca Liotard of Greenbrae, Calif. He had seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Dwight loved sports, especially golf. He has two holes-in-one during his lifetime. Dwight was a kind, loving and gentle man. We will miss him dearly.
