Ludwig’s in Vail teams up with Epoch Estate Wines
VAIL – On Saturday, at Sonnenalp’s feature restaurant, Ludwig’s, guests will have the opportunity to join Sonnenalp’s Head Sommelier Jarrett Quint and Epoch Estate Wines proprietors Bill and Liz Armstrong for an intimate wine pairing dinner.
“We are excited to continue our signature wine dinners with this incredible winery out of the Paso Robles area,” said Quint. “Once again, Executive Chef Steve Topple created an enticing menu to complement each specialty wine that will be introduced that night.”
Epoch was founded in 2004 and has quickly developed a big reputation for small production, hand-crafted, artisanal wines with abundant personalities. The wines are made with minimal intervention in the winery with fruit from meticulously farmed, , rocky, hillside vineyards.
“Our philosophy is simple, although not necessarily easy to implement: to make wines that are delicious and complex, seriously fun to drink, interestingly iconoclastic, seductively hedonistic, thought provoking and hopefully, most importantly, memory making,” said Bill Armstrong, owner of Epoch.
The menu pairing includes: Hamachi sashimi with pineapple salsa and crispy wonton paired with 2011 “Epoch White”; warm duck confit apple tower and black cherry compote paired with 2010 “Block B”; smoked goose breast with mushroom pancake and spiced cranberry fig sauce paired with 2009 “Authenticity”; poached Colorado lamb loin, butternut squash potato rosti and thyme red wine sauce paired with a 2010 “Estate Blend.” Finally, for dessert, warm Tahitian vanilla bread pudding with fresh strawberry soup and toffee bourbon gelato paired with 2010 “Veracity.”
