Ludwig’s to host winemaker’s dinner in Vail
VAIL – Ludwig’s Restaurant at the Sonnenalp Resort of Vail will join family-owned winemakers Silver Oak Cellars and Twomey Cellars for an evening of handcrafted wines and a four-course menu featuring locally grown ingredients. The dinner , a prelude to the Taste of Vail weekend, takes place at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The cost for the four-course menu and featured wine selections is $145 per person excluding gratuity and taxes. Contact the Sonnenalp Resort of Vail at 970-479-5429 for reservations and details.Silver Oak Cellars/Twomey Cellars president and owner David Duncan and Ludwig’s Executive Chef Richard Beichner will lead an interactive and informative evening beginning with a reception featuring Twomey Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley, 2009, and a sampling of hors d’oeurves, such as smoke salmon lollipops, rock shrimp cakes scented with kaffir lime and lemon grass, oysters on the half shell with black pepper passion grantee, grilled flat bread pizza with Sonoma dry jack cheese and pancetta. Additional courses feature Twomey Pinot Noir, Russian River, 2008, and Twomey Merlot, Napa Valley, 2005. Each course is created to showcase the wine’s unique flavors. The highlight is Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 1993, 1999 and 2005. The mastermind behind this evening is sommelier Jamie Garrett, who oversees Ludwig’s extensive wine cellar. During his tenure, The Sonnenalp Resort of Vail has won Wine Spectator’s “Best of Award of Excellence” for its wine list that includes more than 800 wines.
