Man dies in Vail Pass crash
VAIL — A collision between a Jeep and a tractor-trailer on Interstate 70 on Vail Pass resulted in one fatality Monday.
A tractor-trailer was traveling westbound at a slow speed, using its flashing lights and “taking appropriate steps,” when a Jeep that was also traveling westbound struck it from behind, said trooper Nate Reid with the Colorado State Patrol.
The male driver of the Jeep, its only occupant, died on the scene, Reid said. Police have not yet identified the man who died.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured, Reid said.
The crash, which was reported to authorities at 4:45 p.m., occurred at mile marker 188, two miles west of the Vail Pass summit.
