Man drives car into Gore Creek

VAIL, Colorado – Vail Police responded to a call about a vehicle in Gore Creek in East Vail Wednesday at 7:28 a.m.

The vehicle, a silver 2006 Subaru Impreza, was found unoccupied in the river. A police investigation revealed the driver, Michael Budlong, 33, of Centennial, had driven the vehicle along the bike path and into the river sometime the night before and then left the scene, according to the Vail Police Department.

Budlong was charged with reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident, both misdemeanors. The passenger of the vehicle at the time of the accident, Eli Clark, 27, of Vail, reportedly misled investigators during their investigation and was charged with false reporting, a misdemeanor, according to a town of Vail news release issued Thursday. No one was injured during the accident.
