Man rescued after overnight in mountains above Vail

EAGLE COUNTY, CO – Anthony Bowerman, 42, of Aurora was rescued out of the White River National Forest shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday.

The search and rescue operation began was initiated on Saturday at 4:24 p.m. after Bowerman became separated from his group that was skiing down the Peter Estin Hut.

Bowerman built a snow cave to help him get through the night. In the morning, Bowerman started down the hill again, noticed the helicopter, and waved it down.



Two Blackhawk helicopters flown by pilots from the Colorado National Guard High Altitude Aviation Training Center (HAATS) assisted with today’s rescue operations.

The search and rescue were accomplished by the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office , Vail Mountain Rescue Group, and the Colorado National Guard.
