EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado – A 29-year-old man was rescued Thursday from the Minturn Mile, an out-of-bounds run accessed from Vail Mountain, after he broke his leg.

At about 3 p.m., Vail dispatch received a 911 call from the man, who said he was on the Mile with a broken leg.

At about 4 p.m., Vail Ski Patrol reached him. Once the patient was located, a Care Flight helicopter made several attempts to find a safe landing zone but were unsuccessful due to the terrain.

Shortly after 5 p.m., Vail Mountain Rescue Group deployed 12 team members to assist in Vail Ski Patrol’s efforts to remove the man.

At 7 p.m. the patient was taken to Vail Valley Medical Center.

The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, Vail Mountain Rescue, Vail Ski Patrol, and Care Flight worked collaboratively on the rescue efforts.
