Man sexually assaulted girl, cops say

GYPSUM ” A Gypsum man was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a girl, according to an Eagle County Sheriff’s Office report.

Joel Segovia Palma, 42, was arrested on suspicion of felony sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust and two counts of misdemeanor child abuse Saturday, the report says.

The name, hometown and age of the girl have been withheld to protect her identity.



Palma ran after the girl and threw her on the floor, got on top of her and kissed and fondled her in a home, said unidentified witnesses, according to a report written by Detective Brandon Beaudette.

The witness grabbed Palma, who elbowed the witness and knocked him down, according to Beaudette’s report.



Palma has molested the girl for two years, the report says.

Palma said the incident was mistake and that he was just playing, the report says. He is being held at the Eagle County jail on a $25,000 bond.
