Man shot after Boulder hospital standoff
BOULDER, Colorado ” Police have shot a man in a wheelchair at a Boulder hospital after a five-hour standoff Monday during which he claimed his oxygen tank had a detonator.
Police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley says 32-year-old Terrance Baughman is in surgery after being shot in the chest. It wasn’t immediately clear what led officers to fire.
Huntley says officers haven’t been able to deactivate the device on Baughman’s oxygen tank. Police will use a robot to remove the device from the hospital and dismantle it in a nearby park.
The 200-bed Boulder Community Hospital in north Boulder was shut down around 9 this morning when Baughman said he had a detonator on his oxygen tank. Patients were moved to safe areas and emergency-room patients were diverted to other hospitals.
