Man shot at Front Range campsite
WESTCLIFFE, Colorado ” A Pueblo man faces a charge of reckless endangerment, and perhaps others, after accidentally shooting and wounding a fellow camper at a campsite at Lake DeWeese in Custer County.
Undersheriff Craig Feldmann says a 911 was received late Monday morning regarding a camper being shot.
Feldmann says the shooter made contact with him when he arrived, turned over a handgun, and apologized. Feldmann says the man told him he was packing up his equipment and clearing his gun to leave the campsite when he accidentally fired a single round.
Feldmann says the bullet tore through a tent and through a vehicle’s passenger-side window before striking a man in the upper right shoulder.
The victim was airlifted to a Pueblo hospital.
No names have been released.
