Managed summer parking returns to Vail garages, lots

VAIL — Managed parking operations are returning for a new season in Vail and are being implemented for commencement ceremonies at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Ford Park, which will continue with Friday’s Vail Mountain School graduation. Parking options for Friday’s Mountain School event include free, close-in parking in the Ford Park lot on South Frontage Road as well as the soccer field lot on Vail Valley Drive. Additional free parking will be available in the Vail Village and Lionshead parking structures. Vail’s transit service will provide express service between Vail Village and Ford Park via South Frontage Road from 2:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday.

The town’s managed parking program continues through the summer and includes filling the Ford Park lot and the two parking structures before allowing cars to park on the South Frontage Road. In addition, increased transit routes and $10 close-in parking at Ford Park will be implemented during 50 peak event days, including King of the Mountain, Vail Lacrosse Tournament, Bravo! Vail, Hot Summer Nights, Vail Lacrosse Shootout, soccer tournaments and Vail International Dance Festival. The village-to-village express bus between Ford Park, Vail Village and Lionshead via the South Frontage Road will be in use during all paid parking days at Ford Park.

Returning for the summer will be the daily extension of the in-town transit route to Ford Park via Vail Valley Drive, which will operate from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. starting Monday and running through mid-November.

Also returning following a successful trial period last summer is a management program that allows event promoters to separately lease 47 spaces within the 198-space Ford Park upper bench lot for reserved parking during peak event days. The spaces are available to user groups for a rental fee of $500 and can be reserved from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. or 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. The remainder of the lot will be paid public parking during the peak days. Parking will be free on non-peak days. The goal is to improve the overall efficiency of the Ford Park lot and to create equitable parking opportunities.

The park’s first paid parking event of the season takes place June 14 with the kick off of the Hot Summer Nights concert series at the Ford Amphitheater.
