Manipulating light on canvas in Vail

Vail Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL – Cogswell Gallery in Vail, Colorado will host Salt Lake City-based painter Allen K. Lund at the gallery beginning Tuesday. An artist reception at Cogswell Gallery is set for Wednesday from noon to 5 p.m. Light refreshments will be served and the artist will be in attendance.

Lund will be at Cogswell Gallery painting and discussing his work Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Lund has brought a significant number of new works for this summer exhibition, including original oil paintings, limited edition paper giclee’s and hand-embellished giclee’s on canvas.

Growing up in the foothills of Utah’s Wasatch Mountains, Lund developed an early sensitivity to the incredible bounty and variety in the natural beauty of his home state. Richly textured and exquisitely toned, Lund’s paintings have the authority and maturity that come from an extensive lifelong involvement with art. From the time he could hold a crayon until the age of 14, Lund learned and practiced painting and design under the tutelage of his mother and father, both professional artists.

“Lund has a wonderful manipulation of light in his paintings,” said Cogswell Gallery Director Steven DeWitt, Jr. “Since introducing his work to the gallery in August of 2008, we’ve seen a fascination among our clients. His work weaves together a canvas that conveys subtly of light and palette that speaks to a wide audience.

“Allen has the ability to create both intimate landscapes and still-life paintings as small as 5-by-7-inches and then paint enormous, sweeping vistas measuring larger than 4-feet-by-6 feet. Many of our clients’ are looking for a unique piece that will fit in some of the larger homes here in the Vail Valley,” DeWitt said.
