Marketing plan includes rocking out in Eagle
Vail, CO Colorado
Who they talked to: Fair and Rodeo promoter Lori Asmussen
What they talked about: The county wants to hire marketing company Global Spectrum to promote the Eagle River Center. The company has worked for events centers around the United States and Canada, NHL hockey teams, and managed ticket sales for Bon Jovi and Rod Stewart.
The company would help the county market the fairgrounds, attract performers and events and get sponsorships, said Communications Director Justin Finestone.
What’s next? County officials said they hope to bring bigger acts and concerts to the fairgrounds and eventually host a music festival or several concerts during the summer.
What is it? Through a state public health grant, the county hired a researcher to conduct a tobacco-use study among Spanish-speaking residents in the area. The goal is to develop programs to reduce smoking that targets that demographic.
What’s involved? Bilingual and bicultural researcher Mari Plaza Munet will organize four focus groups of Spanish-speakers to find out the norms, behaviors and prevention needs of the community. She will also talk with Latino community leaders and form a leadership group to advise the county about tobacco programming.

Are we seeing more bears because there are more bears on the valley floor, or because we’re all spending more time at home? It could be a bit of both.
