Marlan Meyer, 1925-2009, former employee in Vail

Marlan Williard “Red” Meyer, who worked at Vail Valley hotels in the 1980s, died on March 24 of pneumonia in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was 83.

He was born on Nov. 3, 1925 in Ossian, Iowa, to Earl Meyer and Florence Anderson. He owned and operated a barber shop for 25 years, then worked at the Lodge at Vail in the early 1980s and at the Charter at Beaver Creek in the late 1980s.

He was a member of the Men’s Club at Clearwater United Methodist Church and the Rock Hound club.



He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hulse Meyer; sisters Madonna Moore and Lorraine Huber, of Iowa; granddaughter Megan Gonzales, her husband, Ariel, and their sons Ariel Jr., Austin and Anthony; stepson John Hulse, his wife, Marta, and their son, Ryan, of Indiana; stepdaughters Barbara Kasiewicz (Bernie) of McCoy, Colo., and Katherine Hair, her husband, Gregory, and their daughter, Megan, of Georgia; step-granddaughters Kathryn Eninger (Evan), of Indiana, Michelle Ball (Steven) of Rifle, Colo., and Tara Dahman, of Indiana; and great-grandsons Joshua Eninger and Joseph and James Ball.

A funeral service was held Saturday in St. Petersburg. A memorial service will be held on May 30 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Friends may visit the family in St. Petersburg.
