Massive water pipe might help Colo., Wyo.
CHEYENNE, Wyo. ” The entrepreneur pushing to develop a pipeline to carry water from the Green River to Colorado’s fast-growing Front Range says the project could also benefit Wyoming.
Aaron Million has been pushing to develop a 400-mile pipeline that would generally follow the Interstate 80 corridor across Wyoming. The pipeline would carry water from the Flaming Gorge Reservoir on the Green River to the Front Range.
Million says it could also provide water to cities and towns in southeastern Wyoming.
Million says the pipeline would allow Colorado to access the water it was promised under the Colorado River Compact. The compact is a 1920s-vintage agreement among western states on how to share water.
Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal has expressed concerns about the proposal. He says the compact didn’t account for current dry conditions.
Million addressed the Wyoming Water Association’s annual meeting in Cheyenne yesterday (Wednesday). Million says his proposal is now undergoing environmental review. He says that construction on the pipeline could start in about two years.
