VAIL — Born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Hamilton Aguiar discovered his passion for rendering and creating at an early age. After relocating to the United States to fulfill his artistic career, Aguiar focused on landscapes, thus helping him develop his unique style throughout time.
In his current series of paintings, Aguiar applies silver, copper and/or gold leaf over the entirety of his linen or wood canvases. He then creates a clean, yet contrasting composition using washes and oil paints. The images radiate a dramatic light due to the interaction between the richness of the oils and the mercurial nature of the silver or copper leaf. The interplay of lines and shadows draws the viewer’s eye and invites one to look closer.
‘Look at the simple things’
“I want to show the beauty in its purity through my art, the beauty seen on the light hidden in the purest things of life,” Aguiar said. “By looking at my art, you will understand that all you need in life is to look at the simple things with your heart and see the beauty of its light.”
Masters Gallery will host a reception with Aguiar today and Saturday, from 3 to 7 p.m. The gallery is located on East Meadow Drive in Vail Village. For more information, call 970-477-0600 or visit http://www.mastersgallery vail.com.
