AVON — Love is in the air this February at Maya, the modern Mexican kitchen and tequila bar by chef Richard Sandoval in Avon, which is celebrating the most romantic night of the year with a special Dia de San Valentin dinner on Feb. 14.

Priced at $50 per person, this three-course menu was created using several known Latin aphrodisiac ingredients, including chiles, avocados, lobster and chocolate.

First course options include “Sopa de Calabaza,” a lobster-butternut squash-chile morita bisque with adobo shrimp; or “Ceviche de Atun,” made with tuna, watermelon, cucumber, red onion and mango.

The main course features your choice of “Langosta y Camarones,” featuring Maine lobster and adobo prawns with corn puree and watercress-avocado pico de gallo salad; “Carnitas de Puerco,” a braised pork shoulder and grilled pork tenderloin with corn tortillas, black bean-queso requeson and avocado puree; or Tampiquena, filet mignon with potato-rajas gratin, mole cheese enchiladas, cactus salad and guacamole.

For dessert, choose from an “Empanada de Plantano,” a banana and Mexican cream turnover with coconut ice cream; “Pastel de Mousse,” chocolate mousse with chocolate-chipotle sauce, raspberries and peanut butter feuillantine crust; or tres leches bread pudding with cinnamon ice cream.

Maya opens for dinner daily at 4 p.m. Reservations are highly recommended. To book your table, visit or call 970-790-5500.

Located inside The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa, Maya was recently honored with two 2013 Diners’ Choice awards: Colorado’s Top 10 Vibrant Mountain Bar Scenes and Top 10 Mountain Hot Spot. The Westin Riverfront always offers free on-site valet parking for Maya patrons.
