MedImmune expansion to add up to 840 jobs in Maryland

FREDERICK, Md. – Drug maker MedImmune Inc. said Wednesday it will build a second manufacturing plant as part of a growth plan that would create as many as 840 new jobs in Maryland by 2008.The biopharmaceutical company said it will build a new office, laboratory and manufacturing facility next to its existing Frederick plant, which produces the child respiratory drug Synagis. That project will increase production capacity in Frederick fivefold and accommodate up to 225 new workers, doubling the work force there, said spokeswoman Clarencia Stephen.About 600 other jobs will be created at the company’s Gaithersburg corporate headquarters through a continuing expansion there, according to MedImmune and the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development.Vail, Colorado
