Meditation space coming to new CU building
BOULDER, Colorado – Rockclimbing walls in campus recreation centers are so 10 years ago. But not every campus has a designated yoga and meditation space.
The University of Colorado in Boulder says its new $84.4 million Center for Community building opening next fall will include a 624-square-foot meditation room.
Students will find prayer rugs and yoga mats in the room for quiet reflection in between classes.
The room was prompted by complaints from Muslim students that they can’t find quiet areas on campus for midday prayers. School spokesman Bronson Hilliard says the room could also be reserved by other religious groups or kept open for independent meditations.
