Meeting kicks off West Vail planning

VAIL ” The town of Vail will hold a meeting Monday about the redevelopment of the West Vail commercial area.

The area being studied for an overhaul, in northwest Vail, goes from Wendy’s to the Brandess Building to the town-owned property behind Wendy’s where officials have envisioned building a fire station.

Vail Community Development Director Russ Forrest said the town wants to find out from residents and businesses what they’d like to see in West Vail, including the height of new buildings.

“We want to look at what’s working and what’s not working from a physical and financial standpoint,” he said.

The Holiday Inn, the Roost Lodge and Gart Sports, which owns the West Vail Mall, are considering renovating their properties.

The town will hold a follow-up meeting on the West Vail plan Friday at 1:30 p.m. The location hasn’t been decided yet. Forrest said planners would meet with the council and residents again in October, and then work on a plan that could be done by December.
