Daily Staff Writer

EDWARDS – The Freedom Park Memorial Committee is sponsoring the first Memorial Day ceremony to be held at the future site of the Eagle County Memorial veteran’s memorial. The Freedom Park land is on the west side of Berry Creek pond in Edwards, just east of Colorado Mountain College. The short ceremony at 6:30 p.m., Monday will honor Eagle County residents who have died in the line of duty while serving in the U.S. military; each will have a special plaque in the new memorial. The ceremony will consist of a color guard, Pledge of Allegiance, an invocation by Rev. Carl Walker, a reading of the names of Eagle County’s fallen service members, a four-gun salute and a trumpet duet of “Taps” by Capt. Gary Thornton, ret., U.S. Coast Guard, and his son.For more information, call Pat Hammon at 390-4686Vail, Colorado
