Mesa St students consider asking for smoking ban

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Mesa State College student government is weighing whether to ask the school trustees to ban smoking on campus.

The Associated Student Government will hold a meeting on Thursday to hear what students think of the idea.

The association could suggest the ban to the board of trustees and college President Tim Foster or put the idea to a vote of the student body.

The Grand Junction college has more than 6,000 students.

Smoking bans are in place or planned at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado Christian University in suburban Denver and the University of Colorado’s Anschutz Medical Campus in suburban Denver.

The University of Denver and the Denver School of Nursing ban smoking on most of their campuses.
