Mexican governor says he’s being blackmailed

MONTERREY, Mexico – The governor of the Mexican border state of Sonora said Monday he has received a letter threatening to publish a photograph in which he allegedly appears with a reputed drug trafficker.Gov. Eduardo Bours told local reporters the letter doesn’t include threats against his life and he said it likely came from political enemies looking to discredit him – or drug traffickers trying to intimidate him.Bours said that he has been photographed with thousands of people and wouldn’t know if any of them were involved in illegitimate businesses.”It wouldn’t surprise me if someone published a photo of me with a person wanted by the DEA,” Bours said, referring to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.Bours did not say if the letter’s authors offered to not publish the photograph in exchange for some favor from him.Sonora, located across the border from Arizona, is replete with drug traffickers and migrant smugglers.Vail, Colorado
