2 students issued summonses for alleged racial taunts
MONUMENT, Colorado – Two middle school students who allegedly called a mixed-race student derogatory names and taunted him while wearing a hood face criminal charges.
The 12-year-old victim of the alleged taunting also faces a misdemeanor assault charge for allegedly putting one of his taunters in a headlock.
The two students accused of taunting face misdemeanor harassment charges. One of the boys said the hood, torn from a hooded sweatshirt, looked like a Ku Klux Klan hood and they put it on to joke with the boy. The victim of the taunting said the boys called him the N-word and followed him to a classroom when he tried walking away.
The incident happened March 6 during a free study period at Creekside Middle School.
