Alpine skiing superstars Mikaela Shiffrin and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde announced their engagement on social media on Thursday.

The World Cup couple posted pictures on Instagram, with a smiling Shiffrin showing off a ring. Several other stars congratulated the pair, including Vail’s Tess Johnson, Nina O’Brien and Bode Miller.

Kilde, who is recovering from a serious January crash that cut his season short, told Rueters it was too early to say when the wedding day will be.

“It will probably come when we have settled down, so it will probably be a few more years,” the 31-year-old Norwegian downhiller said.

The couple initially met at a ski camp and confirmed their relationship in May 2021. They were spotted together at black tie events last year as Shiffrin was named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the ‘Pioneer’ category and also won her first ESPY for ‘Best Athlete – Women’s sports.

Kilde, the 2020 overall globe winner, spoke to Olympics.com a few months after the couple started dating.

“What I find really cool is that we can share experiences and have conversations about things I can’t really have with anyone else. She has a lot of experience; I have some experience and we can make each other better,” he said.

“Also, you know, I like her as a person more than anything else. For me that she’s a skier is just a bonus.”

When asked by the Vail Daily in December if a wedding was in the near future, Kilde said, “We talk about the future for sure. The future is what we live for. We have a really good time together, and that’s what’s important, and if that turns into a marriage and having kids, then that would be awesome.”
