Mikaela Shiffrin third after first run of women’s slalom at World Cup Finals

Vail’s Mikaela Shiffrin sits in third place after the first run of Saturday’s women’s slalom race at the World Cup Finals in Aspen. She completed the course in 45.59 seconds, 0.07 back of race leader Petra Vlhova, of Slovakia. Sweden’s Frida Hansdotter is second, 0.03 back.

Shiffrin has already clinched the discipline title, as she entered the finals with a 245-point advantage over second place Veronika Velez Zuzulova, of Slovakia. Velez Zuzulova finished the first run in fourth place, 0.14 back of Vlhova.

Germany’s Felix Neureuther leads the men’s giant slalom after one run, but only has a 0.01 second advantage over Austria’s Marcel Hirscher.

The second run of the men’s giant slalom is scheduled for 11:30 a.m., with the women’s slalom second run scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
