Minturn cemetery mausoleum now open
September 27, 2012
MINTURN, Colorado – The Minturn Cemetery District has announced the completion of the Riverview Cemetery Mausoleum and the expansion of its burial grounds.
The cemetery is located across the Eagle River and below the town’s rock cliffs. As with many sites that are over a century old, there has been much need for repairs and upgrades at the cemetery. In the fall of 2010, the mausoleum building, a two-year undertaking of planning and building, was finally completed. Since then, many finishing touches have been implemented to make the location a functional and welcoming setting for the public. Landscaping improvements and pathway projects have accompanied the mausoleum building, including the development of new upper cemetery grounds, the rejuvenation of the lower cemetery grounds, and upkeep of the cemetery’s memorial stones.
The Minturn cemetery is a public and non-denominational cemetery that dates back to the late 1800s with both marked and unmarked graves of resident miners, railroad workers, ranchers and farmers, mainly of Hispanic or Scandinavian descent.
On Oct. 3, the Riverview Cemetery Mausoleum will be the location of an Open House event that will take place from 4-6 p.m. and is open to the public. This will be an opportunity for people to view the interior of the mausoleum.
