MINTURN — At the Minturn Community Fund, “Community” is a fitting middle name. They’re taking that to heart this season and taking care of neighbors in need.

On Thursday, Dec. 11 the Minturn Community Fund hosts the second annual Holiday Gala, starting at 6 p.m. at The Gourmet Cowboy on Main Street in Minturn. The $80 ticket includes an evening of food and drinks, a silent auction and the feet-tapping, heart-pumping, hip-swinging tunes of the Fabulous Femmes, one of the valley’s most recognizable and entertaining acts.

Nancy Hassett created the fundraiser last year to help Minturn and Red Cliff children in need. Hassett, a long-time valley resident and Minturn Community Fund board member, saw an opportunity to do something and jumped in with both feet.

The 2013 event was a resounding success, touching the lives of nearly 60 children in Minturn and Red Cliff. Because of that, Hassett and her team dedicated themselves to the cause again. This year the funds raised will be used to provide Christmas, and hopefully a little bit more.

“Everything the Community Fund does focuses on making a positive impact on the lives of Minturn residents, whether it’s through free concerts at the park, the community gardens, or our Neighbors in Need program,” said Guy Patterson, the executive director of the Minturn Community Fund. “Because of Nancy’s passion for our children, we realized that it’s time to create something just for them, something that goes beyond the holidays. Our boards — and our residents — have a lot of incredible ideas. With the success of this event, we hope to seed a new program and put those ideas in place.”

In the meantime, the focus is squarely on the present — and the presents. As Hassett says, “Christmas is one of the most magical times of the year; I’d hate for any kid to miss out on that.”
