The Minturn Community Fund is proud to announce the impending arrival of Missoula Childrens Theatre to the Town of Minturn. The Missoula Childrens Theatre (MCT) is the nations largest touring childrens theatre and has been touring extensively for 34 years now from Montana to Japan, and will visit nearly 1,200 communities this year with 43 teams of Tour Actor/Directors. Its an exciting, whirlwind event, as a tour team will arrive in Minturn on Monday, July 30 with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play … except the cast. The team will then hold an open audition and cast 45-50 youngsters to perform in the production Wiz of the West. The cast will rehearse for one week and two public performances will be presented on Saturday, Aug. 4. In only six days, a full childrens theatre production will come to life in the Town of Minturn. All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic childrens stories and fairytales … a twist on the classic stories that you know and love. Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem are all characteristics that are attained through the participation in this unique, educational project. MCT’s mission is the development of lifeskills in children through participation in the performing arts. Minturns auditions for the Missoula Children’s Theatre production of Wiz of the West will be held on Monday, July 30 at 2:30 p.m. sharp at the Minturn Town Center (302 Pine Street, the Post Office Building in Minturn). There are roles for students entering 1st grade through 12th grade. Shortly after the two-hour audition, approximately 45-50 local students will be cast to appear in the show with the MCT Tour Actor/Director. Following auditions there will then be a short break, and then the first rehearsals begin after the audition. Youngsters wishing to participate should simply arrive to the audition at Minturn Town Center by or before 2:30 p.m. and should plan to stay for the two-hour audition. This is a group audition no advance preparation is necessary, but a smile never hurts. Students should just be ready to come and have a good time.No advance sign-ups will be taken and there is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the show, as space is limited. All cast members must be fully prepared to commit to the full rehearsal schedule for the week but even the audition is fun, so everyone is encouraged to come to Minturn and give it a shot. Those cast in the production will be asked to pay a $100 participation fee with a reduced rate for Minturn children. Scholarships are also available, call 8 9(70) 827-5645 for more information. Once cast in the show, rehearsals will be conducted every day from 2- 6:30 p.m. at Minturn Town Center and at Little Beach Amphitheatre in Minturn. Although not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week and if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals required for their role. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the audition. Cast members scheduled for the full four hours of rehearsal will be asked to bring a sack lunch, dinner or snack. The performances will be held on Saturday, Aug. 4 at 11 a.m. and at 3 p.m. and will be presented at Little Beach Amphitheatre in Minturn. The youth in the cast will be called for dress rehearsal before the performance that day. All those cast must be available for all scheduled performances.Though theres no charge for admission to the performances, donations to the Minturn Community Fund will be gladly accepted.
