Minturn standoff ends peacefully

MINTURN, Colorado – Police officers and firefighters Thursday were called out to a home near the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Pine Street. A town resident was taken into custody without incident.

Minturn Town Manager Jim White said police received a report Thursday afternoon of a man standing in his yard, shouting obscenities. When police responded, the man locked himself in his garage, then threatened to set off a propane tank.

More Minturn police and deputies from the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene, and a reverse 911 call went out to the neighborhood, advising residents to stay indoors.

White said police and firefighters were on the scene between 30 and 45 minutes before the man surrendered without incident. After the man was in custody, a second reverse 911 call went out, telling residents the incident was over.
