BEAVER CREEK, Colorado – Miracle at Midnight will be performed Friday at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek by the students of The Vail Academy. Children age 3 to 14 take part in the performance.

“(This is) not your typical children’s Christmas musical,” said The Vail Academy’s Music Director Christi Howell. “If you want to walk away feeling in the Christmas spirit and appreciating the true meaning of Christmas, then ‘Miracle at Midnight’ is a must see for the entire family.”

The evening will include a silent auction from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. with jewelry from Betteridge Jewelry and Kimberly’s Fine Jewelry, gift certificates from local restaurants as well as handmade class projects. The Alpine Wind Ensemble will play as people take their seats. The performance will begin at 6:30 p.m. with The Vail Academy Students, St. Clare’s Children’s Choir and the Alpine Wind Ensemble performing a medley of Christmas carols.

Heather Berquist’s Kindergarten class will recite, from memory, Luke 2, verses 1-20.

“We start practicing in the middle of October,” Berquist said. “It’s a unique way for the children to learn the Christmas story through interacting and engaging. It’s invaluable.”

As the curtains are raised, the audience is taken into the town of Bethlehem where the stage erupts with nearly 100 children of all ages in costumes ranging from angels, shepherds, Mary and Joseph to jazzy camels and the citizens of Bethlehem.

“This year there is a twist, as in Scrooge, the main character finds the true meaning of Christmas in the end,” said Connor Dalbow, who plays the lead role of mayor.

“This is our third year performing at the Vilar Performing Arts Center and the energy of the kids is phenomenal. They are all so eager to learn, to sing and dance, and are excited to be on stage and act, which makes my job much easier,” Howell said.

The lead male roles are played by Dalbow and Chase Michonski. The female leads are played by Emma Cerovich, Sarah Chilton and Scout McClinton.

Tickets are $30/$35 and can be purchased through the Vilar Performing Arts Center at 970-845-TIXS.
