Missing boys found; mom faces charges
Vail, CO Colorado
SUMMIT COUNTY ” Three brothers who ran away from their Frisco-area home early Monday were located Wednesday morning at Copper Mountain, and their mother was charged with child abuse, Summit County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Paulette Horr said.
The boys ” 14, 11 and 9 ” were cold, scared and hungry, but in generally good condition when they were located at about 9:30 a.m., Horr said.
Shortly after the boys were found, their mother, Heidi Andregg, 32, said she was “ecstatic” to hear her boys were OK.
“I’m just happy that they’re safe. Now they can come home and be warm and be fed. I’ve got a whole pizza here waiting for them,” she said.
Andregg said she had not been able to sleep or eat during her sons’ disappearance, and expressed her gratitude for whomever spotted the kids and called police.
When detectives first interviewed Andregg about her kids’ disappearance earlier this week, they suspected there may be some problems at home, Horr said.
Information gained during the investigation and observations made by officers in the home led to her arrest. She was charged with three counts of child abuse.
Horr didn’t know how long the alleged abuse had been going on.
“I have no details on the actual abuse; I just know that it was physical,” Horr said.
The three boys and their sister are in protective custody with Social Services, she said.
Andregg reported her kids missing early Monday morning, after discovering their empty beds at their home at 57 Siskin Lane at about 2:30 a.m.
Andregg faces three months in jail and/or fines of up to $250 for each misdemeanor charge of child abuse.
A phone message left at the home regarding the child abuse chargess was not returned. Andregg will not be released from jail until a judge sets her bond.
