Missing snowboarder found alive

KEYSTONE – The search-and-rescue effot for 20-year-old Sam Mason ended Saturday at 10:30 a.m. He was founda live in the out-of-bounds area west of Keystone Resort’s Diamond Back ski trail. Search-and-rescue teams transported Mason out of the Keystrone Gulch area to the Keystone Medical Center. His condition is being assessed.Mason was last seen snowboarding on the Diamond Back Trail, an expert run, on the backside of Dercum Mountain at 2 p.m. yesterday (Friday, Dec. 23). He was reported missing to Keystone patrol at approximately 4:45 p.m. A search started immediately. Summit County Search and Rescue Group was notified and began searching the out-of-bounds area just west of the Diamond Back trail. The search continued this morning led by Summit County Search and Rescue Group. The other groups participating in the search were: Keystone Ski Patrol; Alpine Rescue; Western State; Diamonds Peaks Backcountry Patrol; El Paso Search and Rescue; and Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
